I am My Valentine

I am My Valentine

It turns out that I won’t need a Valentine (nice to have one, of course). Remember the angst we felt back in college about Valentine’s Day? Who’s going out with their significant others, and who’s not? Who’s locking out her roommate to “hide” with her date? A lot of frenzy over having an Other.

Since the world didn’t end on December 2012, V-day is coming again. We look to it, thinking who, what to do and gift, and where. We take the time to be thoughtful.

Symbols of love

It’s definitely great to show affection for someone. Definitely. But how about having ourselves as our Valentine first?

Do we show ourselves the same courtesy of love and attention? Do we plot when we and our Inner Child (or the Adult Self) meet up, do something fun, and toast each other for the company?

In our busy lives, we take our mind, body, and  spirit for granted. We assume our tri-buddy will be there when we finish this or that, or when we have the time. We assume we have a relationship with it, at our will.

When we have the time.

I am an offender. I stay up late and get up early. This week, amid the joy of having three new clients, I serve and communicate with each one, and try to help tackle life issues for relatives and a friend. It’s 10:30pm and my mind has become glue. I cannot get up from the couch to get to bed.

Even though I thank my body everyday and send it lovingkindness, I push it to the limit.

I have a friend who used to feel bad about telling people that she naps. “I don’t want people laugh at me. Old people take naps.” She needs her down time and takes her nap. Smart lady.

This Valentine’s Day, I will make the time. I’ll be my Valentine. I will meet Little Sue with a engrossing mystery novel, take a walk, and even write her a card.

How are you planning to spend your Valentine’s Day? Please share.

  1. Why is that we get glued to the couch/chair, etc., but can’t put ourselves in bed? I have a quiz at class. Should be a fun evening. Hope you have a great and restful day.

We are the Energizer Bunny? Best wishes with your quiz! I have astro class tonight -must prepare. Tomorrow, Valentine’s Day, is going to be my “treat” day 🙂

  2. I think you’ve got the right idea! I went to a Mystery Writer’s meeting on Valentine’s, which was quite nice.

I love mysteries! Takes a lot of talent to write one. I love Carolyn Hart and Agatha Christie (mostly un-gory crimes). That’s a treat to attend a writer’s meeting, for the Self on V-Day.

I love this so very much. I love the idea of sending myself a card. How spectacular to celebrate yourself on this day. Nicely done.

Thank you. It was cool to write a note to myself. How far I have come… Next year I’ll send it in advance. See what that feels like! 🙂
