Affirm Our Foundation & Pivot to Grow: Summer Solstice

June 21 marks the beginning of summer in the N Hemisphere. A time of intensive growth and eventual harvest. What do you want to integrate from the last six months and accomplish in the next six?

Oh summer, how I love thee? The days without puffy coats, heavy boots, and nose-needling air. Light fills the sky past dinnertime. Birds and crickets sing from dusk to dawn to remind of the season. The land responds with brilliant green, red, pink, purple, and gold.

I come alive under the bright sun – it feeds the fire in my chart. Action, enthusiasm, creativity. Walks and bike rides bring freedom to the body, space for the mind, and elation of spirit.

It has been godsend during a long, protracted home-buying process.

The sun has moved into the water sign of Cancer during Summer Solstice. The energy is sensitive, initiating – it supports action to ensure emotional safety so that we can feel at home. Its symbol, the crab, has a protective container for its tender innards. It is the sign of the mother, who nurtures and protects. Cancer rules the breast and the stomach; they nourish and receive nourishment.

I have learned that a comfortable home is a lifelong yearning, and that when triggered, my inner child runs in a gerbil wheel of despair. Little Sue can’t stop crying no matter how much my adult self consoles her. (Though adult Sue isn’t so happy, either). What moves me out of that is a long walk in the gray, blue evening.

Seeing shadows of the Rockies layered in the distance is humbling. As a human dot in the scene, I am not an important part of the picture. Like in an Asian painting, the people are minuscule compared to the clouds, mountains, trees, and pagoda.

The splendor of the outdoors distracts. Night comes next. Crisis, like the visage in front of me, is temporary.

The grace is that I am alive and contained by Mother Nature. I sense her tirelessness to balance and harmonize her domain no matter what humans have done to it. She adopts and continues to provide the necessities for life, adding beauty as a bonus. I am a recipient of tremendous gifts – I’m fortunate.

I’ve learned that house-hunting brings up deep wounds within and in my relationship. I appreciate that my beloved and I have taken steps to care for them. My inner child is seen because I have learned to advocate for her in a more sensible way. This has been a big fat healing crisis. Subconsciously I have been upgrading an important foundation in my life.

This Summer Solstice, for me, is a launching pad for a fuller love life and a mission-driven career. I’m excited to distill my next steps with the following. Feel free to try it.

  1. Evaluate: What is my favorite accomplishment since Dec 21, 2021?
  2. Celebrate: How will I acknowledge the efforts I made to get there? (Doesn’t need to be a big gesture. Dancing to a song works.)
  3. Intend: What would I like to see happen by September 22 (Equinox) and December 21 (Solstice)?
  4. Envision: Meditate, use Reiki (if able) or light to help visualize, ask my future self of 6 months how my intention have manifested
  5. Anchor: What can I do daily to remind myself of this vision? How will I take care of me during this quest?
  6. Motivate: How will I feel when I make the shift? Gonna get used to feeling this way now – it will attract what I want
  7. Rebel: Monthly or weekly, what is the one risk that is worth taking even if I fail?

What are your thoughts on this process and its timing? I’d love to hear from you!
